USED VS. LOVED

>> Tuesday, July 28, 2009

The past week has been quite a slow week for me, scrap-wise, design-wise.  I've been trying to play catch-up with a lot of deliverables that I can't seem to finish on time because of so many other things cropping up and pushing their way up front.  I have two kits I'm making - sitting on my desktop waiting for me to give them the time of day.  A sketchpad full of doodles I need to scan and vectorize (that's something I still have got to get the hang of - especially creating the vector doodle kind - help! anyone?) and a wonderful and exciting collaborative project I'm doing with my sister that I can't elaborate on yet - just that it involves me illustrating.  None of the things I'm doing at the moment seem to be bringing in any hard cash (which I badly need) and so there lies my dilemma of whether to pursue this lofty idea of graphic design as a career or succumb to the call of the "cubicles" (that's what I call the "corporate" office) - not that thats bad, just that I wish I could sort of marry both and get the best of both worlds - working and doing what I love best (and of course getting paid very well for it too, LOL!)

Yesterday I turned in a job application - this time for a company that deals with Children's Portraits (they have outlets at the major malls) - this seems to be the right fit "career-wise" because it would be dealing with what I feel I excel at the most - hopefully my bio would stand-out from the rest (I scrapped it!), I'd love to show you but would hate to divulge any personal info over the net...

Lets just hope this is the right one for me.

Some time ago, I received an email containing this story that I would like to share.  It is very sad but speaks so much truth about how we sometimes forget that we put love of material things over our love for our fellow man.  It speaks of anger and regretting how we use it, especially to our children, our spouses or loved ones.  Let us not make haste to say and do things we will regret one day or make judgements before we accuse someone of wrong-doing.
Used vs. Loved

While a man was polishing his new car, his 4 yr. old son picked up a
stone and scratched lines on the side of the car.
In anger, the man took the child's hand and hit it many times;
not realizing he was using a wrench.
At the hospital, the child lost all his fingers due to multiple fractures.
When the child saw his father.....with painful eyes he asked, 'Dad when
will my fingers grow back?'
The man was so hurt and speechless; he went back to his car and kicked
it a lot of times.
Devastated by his own actions...sitting in front of the car he looked at
the scratches; the child had written 'LOVE YOU DAD'.
The next day that man committed suicide.

Anger and Love have no limits; choose the Love to have a beautiful,
lovely life.
Things are to be used and people are to be loved,
but the problem in today's world is that, people are used and things are loved.
Let's be careful to keep this thought in mind:
"Things are to be used, but People are to be loved".
Be yourself.... This is the only day we HAVE. Make it a great day!

Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.
The Will of God will never take you to where the Grace of God will not PROTECT you.
Stay FAITHFUL and Be GRATEFUL.

Have a blessed day.

Oh So Sweetly!

>> Wednesday, July 22, 2009

Good Morning! Its "hump day" today which means, the work week is almost over! Did you know that an American English idiom for Wednesday is "hump day", a reference to making it through to the middle of the work week as getting "over the hump?" I actually just found that out this week when someone referenced it...LOL!

Have you had your dose of sweets today? Delicious brewed coffee laced with sugar and cream? Dark bittersweet chocolate or the creamy melt-in-your mouth kind? Softly layered cakes or tall glasses of milkshakes? Ummm... talk about all these is making me drool. If you haven't had your dose today or have not had enough - let me add some delicious digital freebies! Maybe this will whet your appetite and maybe make you crave for more?

MONSTER!MONSTER! KIT ADD-ON FREEBIE

>> Friday, July 17, 2009

Yesterday, I revealed my new kit for sale - "Monster! Monster!" which is available at BOUQUET OF PIXELS at 30% off.

I've got more freebies up my sleeve! Yesterday we had two gorgeous QP's from Susie (aka Psychozoe) and today my dear Rachelle of Rachness Designs (some of you know her as Doodelle) has put up 2 more Quick Pages up at her blog! Rachelle is a fellow Filipina (Pinay Power!) who I have been following and whose doodles have inspired me to take a jump into digi-designing. Thank you Rachelle for being such an inspiration and for answering my little questions here and there.

Did you know that I've been digi-scrapping since 2007? I'm amazed that some designers only started digi-scrapping recently and have moved on to do the designing bit so quickly, I think the reason it has taken me this long to take this leap is my natural reticence and shyness to showcase my work. I'm my worst enemy and have always found it hard to have my work scrutinized by a lot of people. Like Rachelle mentioned in her blog, I am Filipina and I took up Architecture as my college major and have always had a fondness for writing and doodling all over my notebooks and doing craft work as a kid. This has extended into adulthood with various projects I would find myself into - like my jewelry making bead collection (I have all sorts of materials stashed away that I know I'll use one day), sewing, painting...always having to create something. But I would always shy away from the limelight, preferring to work by myself and with holding myself even when other people tell me I have talent in me.

That is why I am so glad to have discovered dig-scrapping and I just can't get enough of how supportive the community is with one another. Here I discovered my passion for art reborn. Here I discovered that I need not shy away and that I always have a supportive audience. I love it that each time I scrap or create a design, I end up learning something new. I love it because there are so many Random Acts of Kindness in this community and everyone seems to Pay It Forward. I love it because here we come to get to know one another and make connections with people who are half-way around the world and yet, we are still essentially the same, united in our love for the craft.

For everyone who has taken the time to read, thank you. And those who have chosen to download my creations, thank you - I shall always strive to create new things to give-away, this is my way of Paying Forward too. If you want to receive news on new kits out and new freebies up, you can subscribe to my blog via email or feeder so you'll always be updated. Just head to the top of my blog to subscribe.  I'm also on Twitter!

Now lets get on to what you have been waiting for (clap, clap, clap!) Here is a preview of Rachelle's layouts and the QP's she has made out of my Monster!Monster! Kit which she is giving away at her blog:

Click here to go to Rachelle (Doodelle's) blog and give her your shout of appreciation. Don't forget to drop by her blog on the 20th, she's got something cooking and you won't want to miss it!

I've Got Monsters On My Mind and All Over My Desktop plus Part 1 of my QP Bonanza Freebie

>> Thursday, July 16, 2009

Not the big, bad scary monsters though, just the sweet ones you would want to be friends with in an imaginary land. And yes, I've got them on my mind and on my desktop because I have been working on them for 2 weeks, trying to make each one of them perfect for you - all 300 dpi and meticulously created with lots of love. I've even given them names - be sure to read the kit description below, then you'll know that my monsters live in the World of Smoon and they're all ready to step through the secret doorway to come and reside on your layouts! What FUN!

I'm so excited, this is my first kit ever for sale! I do hope you all like it and will want to keep it in your arsenal :) It's S4H and S4O friendly, which is something that is really important to me because I like to scrap for others a lot!

Here is the big reveal:

Now available at Bouquet of Pixels and is 30% OFF as part of my New Designer on the Block Sale.

Welcome to the World of Smoon! The home of my cute little monsters.

In here you'll meet Bella and Ted, the Monosaurus sweethearts. Bella and Ted always have so much fun in Smoon! They have a "secret door", in a secret place (no I can't tell you where it's at, or it won't be a secret anymore) where they hop from one dimension to another to meet their friends.

Ted's best buddy is Othello. Othello is a shy little boy because he thinks he looks like a monster, but everyone thinks he's adorable. Bella has a pet called Bleep, a little furry tri-color mono-floppasaurus. Bleep loves to stay on the couch, he sometimes hides himself by making himself invisible. Be careful when you sit on the couch, just say "floo" so that Bleep will get out of your way.

There is also Taffy, who is a very, very silly little monster. She likes to play tricks and make everyone laugh. Flit is the fat little bug, who loves to change his clothes - all the time!

I case you meet Horace, don't be afraid and give him a hug, Horace loves hugs, he just can't get enough of them. Horace's best friend is little Bloop, he loves to hide under anything and pretends to scare them away. But don't be scared, he won't hurt you.

And of course there is dear old Fumble, who watches over the secret doorway. Fumble makes sure that everything is okay in Smoon and that only the good come into the doorway.

Come along with me and create fun, fun memories with my friendly, funny and silly monsters!

Contains over 60 elements (monsters, 2 beds, 2 couches, a "secret doorway", buildings, frames, ribbons, borders, staple, word art, cloud, sun, halftones, journal frames, notebook and lots more!)

An array of 20 textured, grungy and sweet and bold plain and patterned sheets to choose from, including a 12 x 24 scenic spread to build a story book style layout.

All for only $3.49 now at Bouquet of Pixels for a limited time. Hurry over there and grab it and have lots and lots of fun!

My dearest CT Susie (aka Psychozoe) has created some awesome layouts!

She made them into QPs and I want to give them away to YOU!

So head on over to her FUN FUN blog and grab them and while your at it - get to know her. She's a great person and I'm glad I'm getting to know her. Thank you Susie for your hard work and for believing in my designs, its gives me so much encouragement to continue. You may grab the QPs at her blog here: QP Bonanza Freebie 1

And once you get drawn to the World of Smoon, hop on over to Bouquet of Pixels and purchase my kit at 30% OFF so you can create so much more layouts where my monster's can happily reside :)

Please don't forget to come back here because I have more QP freebies for you in the next couple of days and an add-on kit to Monster!Monster!

Hugs!

A TEMPLATE FREEBIE!

>> Sunday, July 12, 2009

Hi! This is just a short, short post. I've been sick this whole week and I'm still recovering, yesterday being the worst day with chills and body aches. Yuck! I hate feeling this way. Anyway, I've got some exciting news, I got accepted to be designer at Bouquet of Pixels (thanks so much Joni!) and I'll be selling my kits over there - the first kit for sale will be out on the 15th (hopefully I get everything uploaded correctly, but no worries, the gals over there are so helpful and friendly). I will, of course continue to shower you with freebies - just bear with me and let me get my bearings in place and my schedules all sorted out.

Aha, I thought I said this would be short, short (well, I guess just short, tee, hee!).

I'd like to leave you with a 12 x 24 template freebie. This template has got guidelines for bleed (in case any of you have them printed and bound at My Pictales), which is actually pretty standard and safe at 1/4" larger than the book size you are ordering.

Here is my layout of my super cute niece which I made into a template:

(Credits: Inner Circle Elements, Easter Blooming Papers, Milleflori Papers, Virgin Papers all by Berna Datema @ Scrapbookgrapics.com)

My niece is adorable isn't she? She's also very funny and sassy!

Here is your freebie template:

Hope you find much use for it. Send me your layouts using this template and I'll post them here in my blog. My greatest joy is seeing others use what I create.

Download here:http://www.mediafire.com/?yymotwdinyd

I'll be posting my new kit soon and more freebies! Don't go away for too long!

A WOMAN OF STRENGTH

>> Thursday, July 2, 2009

I just had to post this poem, I have been sent the shorter version which I found to be very nice and inspiring and had been prepared to post it (it was already in my saved drafts folder) but could not find who wrote it. Its so funny because today, I stumbled upon this longer version in Simply Yin's blog (if you haven't stumbled upon her blog yet, I suggest you do - she has got lots of wonderful templates which I find so useful when I'm in a scrapping funk, in fact she has several templates I've used over and over again with different backgrounds LOL! Thank you Yin!)

WOMAN OF STRENGTH

A strong woman works out every day,
Pride in her appearance she portrays,
But a woman of strength kneels to pray,
Keeping her soul in shape, God leading the way.

A strong woman isn't afraid of anything,
Looking forward to challenges each day will bring,
Women of strength show courage in the midst of fear,
Knowing triumph through faith because the Lord is near.

Strong women won't let anyone get the best of them,
So skilled in defense even if they have to pretend,
Yet a woman of strength gives her best to everyone,
Being anointed with divine blood from the only begotten Son.

A strong woman relies on the physical attributes making her tough,
In her search for power and money she will never have enough,
A woman of strength understands that it’s not about material stuff,
Knowing that before becoming a diamond first she’ll be in the rough,

A strong woman sometimes disguises her feelings shadowed by clouds,
Unhinged when challenged on her policy becoming boisterous and loud,
A woman of strength concerns herself not with judgment from others,
And will not let business interfere with commitments as a wife and mother.

A strong woman is easily impatient back and forth she will begin to pace,
Counting on her holier than thou attitude instead of depending on faith,
A woman of strength is assured trust in God will always carry her through,
And at the Creator’s appointed time she’ll receive all that is justly due.

A strong woman makes mistakes and avoids the same for tomorrow,
Refusing to take time looking back with reverence and Godly sorrow,
The woman of strength realizes life's mistakes no matter how slim,
While thanking God for the blessings as she capitalizes on them.

A strong woman walks head first with no doubt in her mind,
Again, no matter what, she’ll not make this mistake a second time,
But a woman of strength knows God will catch her when she falls,
So when a situation arises again, she’s not afraid to answer the call.

A strong woman wears the look of confidence on her face,
Always doing whatever it takes to finish, seeking only first place,
The woman of strength competes with an emotional sense of grace,
Understanding it’s more important to run a Holy Spirit filled race.

A strong woman has faith that for the journey she’ll have enough,
No matter how uneven the terrain or roads being rocky and rough,
A woman of strength knows it’s in the journey she will become strong,
And the love of God is forever with her, no matter how difficult or long.

A strong woman when uninformed thinks that she is being mistreated,
In the end her physical attributes fail causing doubt to become seeded,
A woman of strength will compromise as a little give and take is needed,
Why? Because a lesson not learned the first time is soon to be repeated.

About This Blog

All about me, my musings, ramblings, fancies, quirks and dreams; the blessings in my life - the kids and their growing years; and my love for digital scrapbooking/design and graphic arts; and my eternal quest to keep learning something new each day and give back in my little way.

This blog used to be 3 blogs which I decided to merge together, my scrapping blog (Pandoras Box of Thought), the blog about my kids (Beyond the Four Walls) and my cooking/recipe blog (Cooking Mama) - all the old posts are still up but I've decided to just post everything in the future in one forum, with all the things I'm doing, I'd like to keep everything in one neat container :)
